Wendy J. Petko assumed the role of Executive Director at the Center for Community Health and Well-Being, Inc. in 2008. In this capacity, Wendy manages a comprehensive women’s clinic that provides prenatal, family planning and well-woman care to low-income women, as well as risk reduction programs for teen girls. Under her leadership, the Center has significantly strengthened its financial situation, despite a troubled economy. This is demonstrated through the following milestones: (1) Patient service revenue has increased 11%; (2) Net assets have doubled; and (3) Total liabilities have decreased by 32%. Wendy and her dedicated staff continue to work tirelessly to further stabilize the organization so as to ensure continued service to the community. As such, under Wendy’s direction, the Center established a Saturday clinic in 2009, so as to increase access to health care and avoid complications due to transportation and/or childcare limitations.
Wendy came to The Center after a 15-year tenure in the financial sector in which she had extensive experience in high-level program development, human resource, project, operational and risk management. Her previous professional experience includes developing and implementing education programs on financial management for local middle schools, leading a corporate diversity council’s Education and Awareness subcommittee to raise awareness and sensitivity to diversity, and coordinating employee relationships support for 600 full-time employees through successful partnerships with management staff and improved workgroup morale.
A resident of Sacramento County since 1999, Petko’s community service includes recent posts as Board Vice President for the Association of Sacramento Area Planners, as well as the Education and Awareness Subcommittee Chair for Wachovia’s West Coast Diversity Council. Petko also serves as a board member for the Capitol Community Health Network. A graduate of the Sierra Health Foundation’s Health Leadership Program (Class IX), Petko holds an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University and a B.A. in Business Administration from State University of New York, College at Brockport. Further, as a former Sergeant in the United States Army, Petko holds an Army Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
